Structural design
Components: It usually consists of cam body, connecting shaft and driving shaft. The cam body is the key part to realize the braking function, and the connecting shaft is used to connect the cam body with the drive shaft, which is connected with the brake cylinder and other components.
Connection method: Some brake camshafts adopt removable connection methods, such as through the connection sleeve, fixed bolt and threaded groove, etc. to realize the removable connection between the cam body and the connecting shaft, and between the connecting shaft and the drive shaft, which is convenient for segmented installation and replacement.
Working Principle
Trucks mostly use drum brakes, and the brake camshaft is the component that connects the brake cylinder with the brake. When the brake is applied, the brake cylinder generates thrust, which drives the brake camshaft to rotate. The eccentric cam head on the brake camshaft pushes the brake shoe, which expands outward and contacts with the inner wall of the brake drum to produce friction, thus realizing braking and slowing down or stopping the vehicle.
Material selection
Alloy steel: such as chromium-molybdenum alloy steel, etc. It has high strength, good toughness and fatigue resistance, which can withstand the huge force and stress during braking and ensure that the camshaft does not deform or break under high loads.
Heat-resistant cast iron: with excellent wear resistance and high temperature resistance, it can maintain stable performance and is not easy to heat deformation even if it generates a large amount of heat during braking, which can extend the service life of the camshaft.

How can I tell if the brake camshaft is abnormal while the vehicle is running?

Performance: When applying the brakes at the same speed, it takes longer for the vehicle to stop (e.g., the normal braking distance of 30 meters is now more than 40 meters), or it takes more force to press the pedal to achieve the same braking effect.
